You Could Drive a Person Crazy!

We are excited to continue our 2010-2011 Arts and Entertainment Series with "You Could Drive a Person Crazy: A Cabaret Evening of Stephen Sondheim" at Gamut Classic Theatre in Harrisburg! The show begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9. Friday evening's performance will feature a special post-show reception with the actors and director, with wine, hors d'ouevres and great company!

Directed by Stuart Landon, the show features some of Stephen Sondheim's most loved songs performed by six actors: Landon, Gamut Theatre core company actor/development director David Ramon Zayas, actor and vocal teacher Michael Zorger, area actresses Rebecca Mease Doble and Allison Graham, and former Gamut Core Company actor and current Ned Smith Center Director of Creative Programming Alexis Dow Campbell.

“You Could Drive a Person Crazy” features selections from Company, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, Evening Primrose, Follies and more. Tickets are $25 per person, or $22 for Ned Smith Center members. If you'd like to attend the reception Friday, tickets are $40 per person, or $38 for Ned Smith Center members. Construction Update!

It's a beautiful day, so we couldn't resist taking a walk and taking some photos of the construction!

Construction Update!

We haven't done a construction update on the Center's blog in a while, but that doesn't mean that we're not making progress! Thanks to the miracles of modern technology, construction on the new Bradenbaugh-Hottenstein Arts and Education Collections Wing has continued throughout the winter!

NEW EXHIBIT! "Gone for the Day: Ned Smith and the Pennsylvania Game Commission"

We hope you're staying nice and warm this week! We're cozying up in the Olewine Gallery and getting everything ready for our new exhibit opening this Saturday: Gone for the Day: Ned Smith and the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Throughout his prolific career, Ned Smith enjoyed a collaborative relationship with the Pennsylvania Game Commission. He worked as a staff illustrator for the agency, creating over 120 cover paintings for Pennsylvania Game News magazine. In the 1960s he began a monthly column he dubbed "Gone for the Day" that proved to be enduringly popular. The column ran for four years, and in 1971 was republished in book form, and is currently in its eleventh printing. Ned also produced several of the Game Commission's "Working Together for Wildlife" prints, including the classic "Dutch Country Bluebirds."

The Center's current exhibit, Gone for the Day: Ned Smith and the Pennsylvania Game Commission celebrates the legendary partnership between Ned Smith and the PGC. Many rarely-exhibited pieces from the Center's own collection are on display, as well as loans from a wide variety of sources.

Some of the exhibit's most exciting loans come from the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, where Ned Smith's widow, Marie, donated all of his field journals and thousands of field sketches shortly after Smith's death in 1985. Most of these items have never been displayed publicly until this exhibition!

Despite the freezing weather, the construction team poured the concrete for the Bradenbaugh-Hottenstein Collections Wing! Check out the photos below.

Building Wing Construction Update... with PHOTOS!

Despite the chilly weather, we have been making great progress in the construction of the new Bradenbaugh-Hottenstein Collections Wing!

The concrete foundation will be poured very soon, which will allow the workers to work through the winter! We anticipate the new wing will be open in May 2011!
